1. the story is about a lego man called 'emmet' who saves the world by using a lid to glue.  emmet is a normal construction worker and on the way to saving the world he comes across many challanges like getting captured but he always breaks free

Vertical intergration








the 2 benefits of having a vertical integration are it helps the profits of the company and it helps the exposure of a brand or franchise. it helps the profits of the company because all of the profits from the individual parts go to the main company and not another company and it also helps the exposure of the brand or franchise because the company are doing most of the work so then there brand gets noticed more and more by different people who are watching the advertisements of the film or watching it in the cinema and seeing their brand on the poster boards

The Lego Movie is a post modernistic film because it uses a pastiche and they make lord buisness like trump and when they say that starbucs coffe costs £10 it also chalanges genre convetions because there are so many different genres that you coukd call the Lego Movie like for example sci-fi, action adventure and fantasy

Target Audience

LO: To identify the target audience using demographics and psychographics


The Lego Movie appeals to every audience because for example for the kids there is lego and characters like Unikitty for the teenagers there is actors like Chris Pratt and Elizabeth banks which would appeal to teenagers and there is actors like Morgan Freeman and Will Ferret  which would appeal to adults and also the Lego Movie will appeal to parents because there is also that nostalgic effect because they used to play with legos when they were children and it appeals to all genders by using female and male actors.



The Guardian 

1. a big part to play in the building blocks of succes is that its about lego and lego is already a massive brand without the film so more people would go and watch the film because a lot of people have played with or know about lego 

2. they brought in Phil Lord and Christopher miller so they can make a good film that all audiences would want to watch instead of a bad film that only children would watch 

3. it makes the younger generation buy a lego movie dvd and then once they grow up they will feel a lot of nostalgia and probably show it to their children and then the cycle continues

The lego movie is a tent pole production because its target audience is everyone and with their profits they can fund the slightly more risky movies if they dont make profit

McDonalds happy meal toys, they released a character poster every week in January 2014, they changed the lego movie website background, lego stores scheduled linked events, free accessory packs, video game, a website enabled fans to make lego versions of themselves 


At 7.27pm on Sunday 9th February in the middle of dancing on ice five days before the movie was released itv broadcast a worlds first ad break made entirely out of lego 


British heart foundation, confused.com, BT and premier inn all paid for the production costs of their adverts themselves because the lego movie will give their company more exposure.


























The Lego movie was so successful because they did one thing different from any other film. They made a full add break of lego and popular advertising companies in the lego world this marketing was very successful because the lego movie won the award for the best lego movie of the year in 2014 and that is very unusual for a kids movie to win the best move of the year and nearly 6 million people saw this add break, the lego movie specifically chose these adverts because if an advert was not very popular then the audience might not recognise the advert and the add break would be a fail. The 4 companies all agreed to not pay the lego company because their ad will get a lot of recognition. They also released the movie in febuary 2014 because it would be half term for the kids

Explain how The Lego Movie trailer uses 2 elements of media language to target different audiences


One element in the lego movie trailer is editing, for example the inter titles say 'the top treat for half term' this appeals to the parents of the children so then they bring their children to the movies to watch the lego movie in the half term.

Another element in the lego movie trailer is mise-en-scene, an example of this is through the colour pallet of the trailer which would appeal to kids because there is a lot of bright bold colours and a lot of colours to look at which also links to fun and happieness so children would want to watch it because of that fun element that The Lego Movie poster explores.

Connotation:

the man looks evil because of the colour pallet on the poster 

he doesn't look scared of the fire behind him so he might be used to it 

the camera angle is a low angle shot which suggests he has a lot of power 

the cloudiness and the fog suggests that the building is burning or breaking down 


Context that the audience could bring

the man in that image is batman 

the symbol on the building is his symbol






























The Lego Movie video game is constructed to appeal to its target audience because there is a lot of people in this movie poster which gives a higher chance of the teenagers recognising some of them so then they play the video game which would make them want to go to the cinema. Also the colour pallet is very bright, bold and there is a lot of reds, yellows and blacks and that connotes to an action game which would appeal to the younger teens and also make them play the video game. 

Moreover the wrench that Emmet is holding in his hand connotes creativity and links to the fact that he is a construction worker and he builds and creates new things. It also suggests that the wrench is the thing you are searching for in the video game also the police in the bottom left are in lack to show that they are the bad guys which suggests that the video game will have a lot of action and possibly a police chase which also would intice teenagers into playing the game. Lord business is the biggest character there and also he is looking down on everyone which might suggest that he is the bad guy in the game suggesting that he is the boss that you might have to defeat at the end of the game. they are all in a city and that also connotes to an action game also Vitruvius is holding a staff with a green gem at the end of it so maybe you also need to protect that or else the world will collapse. 

Also the way that Emmet is dressed creates the idea of creativity because he looks like an ordinary construction worker with all of these well known super hero's behind him also a lot of people will play the video game because it was released a week before the movie was released so they might be so excited about it that they play the video game to get spoilers of the film.

In the LM poster, there is an image of Batman as one of the main characters in the foreground, beside Emmet and Green Lantern. This character would appeal to the teenagers part of the target audience. This is because the character Batman is holding a weapon which would link to an action film, also Batman is a well known action superhero which many teens would know who Batman is. 

In the LM poster they also show a tagline at the top of the poster in white saying,"The story of a nobody who saved everybody". This tagline would appeal to the older part of the target audience (the adults/parents). This is because they might want to teach their children that you can be whatever you want to be and that might inspire them to become successful when they are older.
 
In the LM poster they also show an image of Unikitty in the middle ground of the image, next to v
Vitruvius and the Green Ninja on the right hand side of the movie poster. This character would appeal to the younger part of the target audience (the children). This is because of the bright colours and bright colours connotes to fun and excitement. Also Unikitty looks like something a child would make with lego pieces which would create the sense of creativity and appeal to their imaginations.

1. her facial expressions show us that she is not scared of the explosion right behind her this challenges female stereotypes by being represented as brave and strong but some elements counter that for example the length of her hair and her hair highlights 


Trailer and video game trailer, wyldstyle was fighting the robots and was not scared of them and is very strong and skilful. This is challenging the stereotypes. In the video trailer she is also seen as a strong skilful woman.

Age is represented in the poster campaign of The Lego Movie through the 2 characters Vitruvius and lord business because they are older then the rest of the characters and they are both wise meaning that this supports the stereotype of old people. Also in The Lego Movie poster campaign Bennie the spaceman is there to entertain children because his facial expressions show that he is like a child and it also gives the adults watching The Lego Movie would remember him because when they were a child in the 80s playing with lego.

The Lego Movie promotional campaign targeted a range of audiences children being one of them. Warner bros choose to make the posters bright and colourful so it will catch the eye of a child and they will want to watch it because bright bold colours links to fun because most children products are bright and colourful. Warner bros also added characters like Batman, the green lantern, wonder woman which are all movies that the child might have watched before and then that makes them want to watch the movie and beg their parents. 

Another audience that Warner bros targeted are the teenagers. They did this by making the posters and film a sci-fi / action adventure. This would appeal to the  male teenagers because a lot of male teenagers go to the cinema and the most popular genres for male teenagers to watch is action adventure/sci-fi. They also target the female teenagers by adding characters in the movie like wonder woman and wyldstyle which are both challenging the (stereotypes of females) to appeal to the female audience.

The Lego Movie also targeted the adults because of the inter contextual language for example in the movie poster it says "the story of a nobody who saved everybody" this would appeal to the adults because if they have children it will teach their children valuable lessons like use your imagination and you can be whatever you want if you use your imagination also their children will be begging them to go and watch it so it will be a nice half term treat for them because warner bros released The Lego Movie at the perfect time so then the children would be off school and therefore will have time to watch it. another way that Warner brothers targeted the older audience is the fact that they added characters like Morgan Freeman and Will Ferrel because the older generation will recognise them from other movies that they have been in and they will want to watch them because they like them as actors.
